Party seniors promise that the yet-to-be decided candidate will be from Pune
BJP state party chief Nitin Gadkari on Saturday rubbished the rumours that 75-year-old Shetkari Sanghtana leader Sharad Joshi will contest from Pune. These are just speculations. The centre is yet to decide on the Pune candidate,Gadkari told the Indian Express. We will completely abide by the partys decision.
Another senior leader, who did not want to be named, said that the candidate will be from Pune. He categorically said that there was no question of fielding an outside candidate when there were already three from the city vying for the seat.
Speculations were rife over Joshi, who is a Brahmin, being selected as the BJP candidate to stop the BSPs from trampling the BJP vote bank. As the BSP has announced DS Kulkarni as its cadidate for Pune,BJP leaders said they were not worried at all.
BJPs city chief Girish Bapat said that the candidate need not necessarily be a Brahmin. We are not worried over BSP candidate as we are sure of our voters, Bapat said.
