Shaikhs 5 wickets for 7 runs help Trigon shoot out Axis Bank for a paltry 89.
Vikram Deshmukhs all-round performance gave Sujanil the much-needed leeway before they beat Pune Police by two wickets in the opening match of the ABIL Inter-Corporate Cricket Champions Cup at Deccan Gymkhana.
Deshmukh snapped three wickets after Pune Police won the toss and elected to bat. Abhijeet Ekshinge 30 and Amar Lonkar 20 were the only batsmen who put up some resistance. Ketan Bapat also took three wickets while Mihir Mehta had two as Pune Police put up 113 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs.
Sujanil too struggled at the start as wickets kept falling at regular intervals but Jimeet Parmar 29 and Deshmukh 24 helped steady the ship before the team won with mere two balls to spare.
The second match of the day saw Trigon Consultants beat Axis Bank by six wickets. Putting Axis Bank in to bat,Trigon Consultants dismissed their opponents for 89 as Zaheer Shaikh snapped up five wickets. Shaikh conceded just seven runs off his bowling.
In reply,Trigon Consultants opened with Yogesh Tandulwadkar (50) and Prashant Kharade (29) as they put on 79 runs for the first wicket. With just 11 runs needed for win,Trigon lost four wickets in a huff,but had enough overs and wickets to sail through.
