In a major security breach,as many as 17 children including 16 juveniles broke the window pane of the observation home and escaped on February 13.

Police had nabbed these juveniles for their involvement in crimes like robbery, house break-ins and dacoities. As many as 68 children, mostly juveniles, had gone missing from the observation home in last year.

The observation home authorities have filed a missing report with the Yerwada police station. The children hail from Sangli,Akola,Pune and Beed areas. Police had launched a massive search for nabbing the juveniles. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV) Jalinder Supekar said,”Two children have already returned. We have formed three teams for searching the others.” Supekar admitted that there was a major security lapse at the observation home.

“We have suggested the observation home to increase the height of compound walls. We have also suggested deploying more guards and installing good quality doors and windows. The observation home should also improve the quality of counseling sessions and vocational courses training camps for keeping the children busy in constructive activities,” Supekar said.
