The security around military establishments in the city will be tightened ahead of the festive season. In a press release issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB),the Ministry of Defence (MoD) cited increased threat warnings by intelligence sources as the reason behind this step.
The enhanced security will entail access control and random checks by military personnel in the vicinity of military complexes located in Pune Cantonment and other parts of the city. Instructions have been issued to ensure that citizens are least inconvenienced. Random checks will be carried out to check the identity of civilians and military personnel who are transiting through military areas, said the release. However, actions such as checking vehicle documents, wearing helmets and adherence to speed limits – which are police tasks, will not be undertaken by the army, it added.
