The state education department has issued a showcause notice to Islamia Primary Urdu School for renting out halls and playgrounds for weddings and commercial activities. The Zilla Parishad (ZP) has asked the school authorities to explain how permission was obtained to conduct these programmes and how the money collected was utilised.
As per the documents available, the school has been renting out premises as mangal karyalay for weddings. They allegedly charge Rs 15,000 per event as rent. The school is fully aided and hence its premises are not allowed to be rented out for any such non-academic events. I went there on Sunday and saw a wedding was under way, said KD Bhujbal, extension officer, education board of ZP.
We have asked the school to respond in four days as to whose permission was taken before renting out the premises and where the money collected was utilised, Bhujbal said. As per the complainant Abdul Haseeb Khan, around Rs 6,82,700 was collected as wedding rent alone from October 20,2010 to May 2,2012.
Khan also alleges the school has acted without permission from ZP,Charity Commissioner,Police and Cantonment Board.
I knew of the wrongdoing for many years. To prove it,I was monitoring the schools hall last year and collected the evidence. I have submitted the same to the education department. Even this month, there are a lot of marriages scheduled, said Jaffer Khan,Abduls uncle.
The school is a 100 per cent aided and gets both salary and non-salary grants from the government. Hence there is no need for the school to indulge in such activities. No government authority has given permission for schools to conduct such events. We have asked the school to give details in 4 days, Bhujbal added.
