Salekar,Damle storm into Vishrambaug tennis semis

Sixth seed Piyush Salekar stormed into the semi-finals of the Vishrambaug Trophy under-16 All India Junior National Talent tennis tournament on Saturday.

Sixth seed Piyush Salekar stormed into the semi-finals of the Vishrambaug Trophy under-16 All India Junior National Talent tennis tournament on Saturday. The championship has been organised by the Pune Metropolitan District Tennis Association in collaboration with Vishrambaug Tarun Mandal. The tournament was played at the MSLTA School of Tennis in Balewadi.

Salekar defeated Sanket Tambat in comprehensive fashion,registering a 4-0,4-1 victory,while Siddhanth Banthia beat Dishaan Gidwani with the same scoreline. Prajit Oswal defeated Sanket Awale 4-2,4-2 while Pune’s Mihir Damle was stretched by Atharva Sharma 1-4,4-2 (7-2) in one of the most engrossing matches of the day.

Sharma took the first game,however,Damle fought back in the second employing a network of powerful groundstrokes and cheeky drops to unsettle his opponent.

In the girl’s category,Ishwari Mathere prevailed over Tejasvi Kate 4-2,5-3,while Shreya Sagade defeated Mansi Narade 4-1,4-1. Riya Chaphekar,the third seed in the tournament,sent Samruddhu Ghumare packing with a comfortable 4-0,4-0 scoreline. Jitasha Shastri,who had earlier clinched the under-14 crown at this tournament,beat Neha Mokashi 4-2,4-1.
