The election department has taken cognisance of the complaint by activists who have pointed out repetition of name on the voters registration list.
With the drive extended till November 25,the election department has started issuing notices to people whose names have been repeated on the list.
We have noticed errors and will correct them. Even as we will come up with an updated list in a few days,we will publish the final list on January 6 after the drive, said Deputy election officer Apurva Wankhede.
She said the percentage of voters to be issued Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) will increase. Last year,it was 89 per cent, she added.
Activists from the Vadgaonsheri Assembly constituency had approached the district election branch demanding scrutiny of as many as 30,000 voter names from the six Assembly constituencies in Pune district. They had pointed out that the names were repeated in two or more constituencies. Besides, names of the dead still appear on the list, they had said.
Activists demanded that the election branch initiate necessary steps to erase repeated names from the list.
In letters by Sunil Tingre and Suhas Tingre, activists demanded that administration the should expose such cases.
Instances of bogus voting cannot be ruled out if such names remain on the list. Besides, the administration will not be able to calculate the exact percentage of voting during elections, read the letter.
