A cheque of Rs 25,000 to be handed over to collector next week.
In a heart-warming gesture, over 150 artistes of Rambo Circus have decided to donate a days salary for drought relief. This was announced by circus co-partner Sujit Dilip at a press conference held in the city on Friday.
As our artistes are from rural areas, they understand the ravages and hardships of drought. The ongoing drought in the state is assuming alarming proportions, which has disturbed all of us. After discussing the situation amongst ourselves,we decided to hand over days salary to the collector of Pune for drought relief, said Dilip.
According to Praveen Walimbe, the media co-ordinator of the circus, around Rs 25,000 will be donated by the artistes.
We intend to visit the office of the collector either on Monday or Tuesday to hand over the cheque, he said. True to their circus spirit, the team will be accompanied by six artistes dressed as clowns.
The circus, which arrived in the city recently, will host a grand celebration of the World Circus Day on Saturday at the SSPMS Ground. Girls from the Ananth Hindu Mahilashram in Narayan Peth will also participate in the event.
The circus artistes will also perform in four special shows at Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai on Saturday and Sunday.
Other than Indian and foreign artistes, the circus also has four elephants, two camels, eight horse,Australian dogs and parrots.
