Railway registers over 66,000 cases against ticketless passengers

Pune division of Central Railway has registered over 66,000 cases against passengers travelling without tickets.

Pune division of Central Railway has registered over 66,000 cases against passengers travelling without tickets. The five-month drive,which was conducted between April and August this year across all prominent stations,resulted in collection of Rs 3.48 crore as fine. As part of a similar drive last year,the division had collected Rs 1.31 crore as fine in 27,696 cases of illegal commuting.

“A total of 66,275 cases were registered against unauthorised passengers and 2,745 cases were registered against unbooked luggage,” said a railway official.

The drive was jointly conducted ticket checking staff and railway protection force. “Such drives are aimed at discouraging passengers from ticketless travelling and also educate them about the need to buy tickets before travelling,” said the official.
