A 19-YEAR-OLD boy attacked a woman with a sharp object Wednesday evening, as he believed she was preventing her daughter from a relationship with him. The victim, identified as Shaila Atmaram Ghare (42), resident of Bharati Nagar, Kothrud, has lodged a complaint in this case at the Kothrud police station. Police have arrested the assailant, identified as Akshay Kashinath Dhanve, resident of Kishkindhanagar, Kothrud, under section 326 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Police sub-inspector V P Rajput is investigating the case. When contacted, sub-inspector Rajput said that Dhanve and Ghare know each other well, as Ghare sells garlands and Dhanve sells flower bouquets in the same place in Kothrud area. “Probe so far has revealed that Dhanve is having a one-sided love affair with Ghare’s daughter. He believed that the girl was not accepting his love because of her parents. So he was upset and under the influence of alcohol he entered Ghare’s house around 8.15 pm and attacked her,” said Rajput.
Police said that the complainant was making garlands at her house. Dhanve started talking to her and then asked her to make a cup of tea for him. But when Ghare went inside the kitchen, he followed her and attacked her neck with a sharp object.
Ghare was severely injured and taken to a hospital for treatment. After she filed the complaint, police arrested Dhanve. He was produced before a magistrate court today. The court remanded Dhanve to police custody for three days for further investigation.
