Pune techie kills ex-wife, dies in accident, say police

Manoj Garule and Ashwini were divorced three years ago after nine years of married life. They are survived by an eight-year-old daughter.

A SOFTWARE engineer working in Pune allegedly murdered his ex-wife and then died himself in a road accident in Aurangabad on Friday. Police have identified the deceased as Manoj Garule and his wife Ashwini (29). The latter was residing at her mother’s house in Jai Vishwa Bharati colony of Aurangabad.

According to the Aurangabad police, Manoj was employed with a private company in Pune. Manoj and Ashwini were divorced three years ago after nine years of married life. They are survived by an eight-year-old daughter. Police said that Ashwini shifted to Aurangabad and was living with her parents after the divorce.

A probe revealed that Ashwini had gone out with her daughter and niece on Friday evening. While returning she noticed that Manoj was following them. After Ashwini reached home, Manoj allegedly followed her and all of a sudden he attacked her with a sharp weapon in front of their daughter, leaving her in a pool of blood.

Ashwini’s parents had gone to Nashik when the incident took place around 7:45 pm. Soon after attacking Ashwini, Manoj left the spot and was escaping in his car. However, he met with an accident near Lasur on the Nashik-Aurangabad highway and died. Police found a sharp weapon in the car, which he is known to have used for killing his wife.

Local residents rushed Ashwini to a hospital. After being informed, her parents lodged a complaint at the Jawahar Nagar police station. Ashwini’s daughter reportedly told the police that her mother was killed by her father. Police inspector Manish Kalyankar told media persons that investigation has revealed details about a dispute between the couple about maintenance amount after the divorce. The police have initiated probe in the case.
