In a span of 48 hours, the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) went from advancing the schedule of the engineering written exams to once again reverting back to the old schedule, thanks to pressure from students. Just two days back, SPPU officials had decided to pre-pone the engineering exams to April 26, instead of May 2. The decision was taken keeping in mind the severe drought situation in the state owing to which some students had requested to pre-pone exams so that they could return to their native districts and villages earlier.
However, members of some students organisations met the Vice-Chancellor and demanded that the exams be held according to the earlier schedule. The organisation claimed to have received close to 500 complaints in two days. To ensure students get enough time to prepare for the exams, SPPU’s controller of examination Ashok Chavan said, “The written exams for engineering faculty will take place as per earlier schedule i.e. starting from May 2. The detailed timetable is available on website of the university.”
