PUNE RURAL Police have solved the murder of a seven-year-old girl who was brutally killed on May 21 while she had gone to the fields with her 14-year-old cousin. The incident came to light the next morning in village Sadumbare, near Talegaon Dabhade, when the body of the deceased girl, Payal Jagtap, was discovered. Her cousin, Rutuja Kusumkar (14), was found in a badly-injured state by the locals.
Police have now revealed that the assault was a result of a one-sided love affair. A 24-year old boy has been been arrested for assault and murder of the two girls, said police. The boy was apparently in love with the teenage girl. He had followed them to the field that morning and assaulted them following an argument. The two had received serious injuries on their neck and throats. Rutuja is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The Pune Rural Police combed the area and got the clues from informers regarding the crime and the criminal. They then arrested the suspect, Mahendra Talape, a resident of Vashire village in Khed taluka, on Thursday. According to police, they zeroed-in on Talpe after finding out how he had frequently called Rutuja’s father.
