Pune: PMI first regional conference today

Rt. Rev. Lourdes Daniel, Bishop of Nashik, will inaugurate the first central regional conference of the Prison Ministry, India (PMI), a voluntary organisation working for the release, reformation and rehabilitation of prisoners from May 13 to 15 at the Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth, Nagar Road.

Speaking to mediapersons Fr Wilfred Fernandes, Rector of St Patrick’s Cathedral and state coordinator of PMI said the theme of the conference is ‘prisoners no more, but brothers and sisters’.

PMI has 850 branches across the country and more than 6,000 volunteers are involved in the organisation, Fr Wilfred said.

Dr B K Upadhyay, Additional Director General (Prisons) will speak on the need for transforming prisons. Sharad Kurrade, Superintendent, Observation Home (Boys) will also speak during the conference. A tour of the open jail, remand home and mental hospital has also been planned on the occasion.
