Pune: Police nabs ‘Mama gang’, foils dacoity bid

During searches, two pistols, two swords and other sharp weapons along with two motorcycles were recovered from the gang led by Akash alias Mama.

THE CHINCHWAD police have arrested the ‘Mama Gang’, which was planning to loot a jewellery shop in Pimpri-Chinchwad area on Tuesday. Acting on a tip-off to police naik Shantaram Hande and constable Vishnu Bharti, a team from Chinchwad police station laid a trap and nabbed a gang of six armed men, hiding in a dilapidated building, near Premlok Park, Chinchwad, around 2.45 am.

Police arrested the suspects, identified as Akash alias Mama Uttam Randive, Fafiq aliad Kalya Salim Shaikh, Chandrakant alias Chandya Mane, Dnyaneshwar alias Dnyanya Jagtap (32), all residents of Vetal Nagar, Chinchwad, Ramesh alias Anna Ahiwale and Rupesl Patil of Landewadi Bhosari at the spot.

During searches, two pistols, two swords and other sharp weapons along with two motorcycles were recovered from the gang led by Akash alias Mama.

Probe revealed that Mama’s aides were also involved in a recent dacoity at Dehu Road. All four aides — Akash Kasbe, Mahesh Patole, Akash Arsul, Vishal Survase, all residents of Vetal Nagar in Chinchwad — were arrested. Police said Mama is a dreaded criminal and formed the gang with history sheeters.
