A woman was allegedly murdered in a moving autorickshaw following a quarrel with her live-in partner on Thursday night. The autorickshaw driver has registered an offence in this case at Warje Malwadi police station. The police have arrested the alleged assailant, identified as Pappu alias Bharat Mahadev Durge (30), a resident of Sutardara in Kothrud.
The deceased woman has been identified as Rupali Khandu More, 35 years old, a resident of Sinhagad Road. Primary investigation by senior police inspector Anuja Deshmane revealed that Ruapli is a divorcee with two children. Durge is also married for the last 14 years and has two children.
Rupali and Durge were in a live-in relationship for the last eight years. Reportedly, there was a dispute between the couple as Durge suspected that Rupali had an affair with another person. Around 9.30 pm on Thursday, Durge was taking Rupali from Kothrud to her home on Sinhagad Road in an autorickshaw. The driver of this autorickshaw, Somnath Shankar Thakar (36), a resident of Gananjay society in Kothrud, is a friend of Durge.

While they were en route to Sinhagad Road, Durge and Rupali started quarreling in the autorickshaw. Thakar asked them to stop quarreling. Some time later, when there was no sound from the back seat, Thakar turned and panicked to see Rupali in a pool of blood. Durge told him that he killed her by attacking her with a cutter.
Thakar rushed his autorickshaw to the Alankar police station and handed over Durge to the police. Durge reportedly admitted to his involvement in the murder. Police then initiated a probe and arrested Durge under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. Probe revealed that the murder happened in the jurisdiction of Warje Malwadi police station.
