Pune: Juvenile arrested for murdering roommate over TV remote

PUNE POLICE have detained a juvenile who allegedly killed his roommate following a minor dispute over using a TV remote. Ramkumar Yadav, 20, a resident of Kather in Uttar Pradesh, who was staying in Pimple Gurav, was murdered by the 16-year-old, also hailing from the same region.

Both the deceased and the accused worked for a construction contractor. A third person who was present in the room at the time of the incident had registered a complaint with the police. The juvenile has been booked for murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. According to police, the incident occurred at Gulmohan Colony of Pimple Gurav on Friday at 8.30 pm.

“The accused was possessing the TV remote and Yadav asked him to hand it over to him. When the former refused to do so, they entered into a dispute. As per the accused, Yadav slapped him first which enraged him and he got hold of a kitchen knife. He told us that he was just trying to frighten Yadav, but he got stabbed accidentally,” said Police Sub-Inspector HV Gade of Sangavi Police Station.
