FDA, PMC health officials arrested for accepting bribe

Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), Pune nabbed an Assistant Commissioner working with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Department along with an officer working with health department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) while they were allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 for providing requisite licence to a beer refinery.

According to information provided by Shrihari Patil, Assistant Police Commissioner, ACB, the complainant had applied to obtain an FDA certificate for his beer refinery. Accused Assistant Commissioner Deepak Mirajkar (56) and Food Inspector (PMC) Ajit Bhujbal (36) visited the spot and conducted the inspection. During this inspection, they demanded Rs 30,000 in addition to the requisite fees.

“Acting on the complaint filed by the complainant, we laid a trap and arrested Bhujbal while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in the parking of the Council Hall. He was accepting the money on behalf of Meirajkar. Both of them have been detained and offence has been registered under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act,” said Patil.
