The crime branch of Pune city police have arrested a teenager and his two minor accomplices for allegedly being involved in several thefts cases across the city. The accused, Surabh Kunjram Bedse (19), is a resident of Sudarshan Nagar. Acting on a tip-off, a crime branch team led by inspector Lakshman Borate nabbed Bedse along with his two accomplices on Monday.
Interrogations revealed that they committed at least eight thefts in Chinchwad and Nigdi in the last few months. DCP (crime) PR Patil said that by posing as newspaper boys, the accused moved around in residential areas.
And while doing so, they entered houses with open doors and stole valuables like mobile phones, laptops and cash. The boys also used to approach people on the pretext of asking some address and snatch their cell phones. Police said that the boys were also involved in two vehicle thefts.
Police have confirmed their involvement in three thefts and two vehicle thefts at Nigdi police station area and three house break-ins at Chinchwad police station area. Police have recovered two laptops, 16 cell phones and two motorcycles, worth around Rs 3.17 lakh from the boys.
