Pune: CBI arrests two engineers of Military Engineering Services in bribery case

The complainant in this case had alleged that the two officers had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.1 lakh for processing his bills of Rs 7 lakh regarding civil work executed by his firm.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested an Assistant Garrison Engineer (AGE) and Junior Engineer (JE) of Military Engineering Services (MES), both working in the office of Garrison Engineer (Air Force), Lohegaon, Pune, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 90,000.

According to a press release issued by the CBI, a case has been registered against the AGE (contract) and JE (quality surveyor and contract) under sections 120 (b) of Indian Penal Code, sections 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.The complainant in this case had alleged that the two officers had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.1 lakh for processing his bills of Rs 7 lakh regarding civil work executed by his firm. However, the complainant approached the CBI’s ACB office. “The bribe amount was subsequently negotiated to Rs 90,000. CBI laid a trap and caught the JE red-handed today at the office while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 90,000 from the complainant,” the press release said. CBI sleuths have started conducting searches at the office and residence of the two officers, which are located in Nashik and Pune. The two officers will be produced in a designated court in Pune.
