Poona Musicale to celebrate 20 years

The Poona Musicale will celebrate its 20 years and will perform at Oldham Methodist Church,East Street,Camp on March 10 at 8 am and at St Mary’s Church,Solapur Road at 6.30 pm on the same evening.

The Poona Musicale will celebrate its 20 years and will perform at Oldham Methodist Church,East Street,Camp on March 10 at 8 am and at St Mary’s Church,Solapur Road at 6.30 pm on the same evening. The choir will perform seven classical pieces including Dona Nobis Pacem,Ave Verum,Worthy is the Lamb among others. The choir will sing two Cantatas ‘Come Touch the Robe’ which highlights the interactions of Christ with the people during the days prior to his crucifixion. The Choir will also perform a rendition of the Passion of Christ as witnessed by his disciple Peter who later became the pioneer of the Christian faith. The entire cantata is a depiction of Peter’s personal perception of the Passion and the subsequent appearances of Christ after his resurrection. The 60 member choir has students,professionals,retirees who have devoted their leisure time to practice choral music. Started in 1993,by Daniel Manoharan,secretary cum choir conductor and some like-minded people,the Poona Musicale has been piloting the musical discourse to various parts of the country. Known for its recital of Classical Western music including Oratorio Handel’s ‘Messiah’,‘Judas Maccaebus’,Haydn’s ‘Creation’ Mozart’s ‘Coronation Mass’ and others,the choir performs twice every year. Proper practices,committed members and extra efforts by Jasmine Irani,an Engineering student,pianist cum conductor of the Poona Musicale are reasons why we have become famous in the last 20 years,said Manoharan.
