A day after 29-year-old employee of a multinational IT company in Pune allegedly committed suicide, police are probing how he procured the country-made pistol after a failed hanging attempt at his flat in Warje .

Warje police identified the victim as Vivek Poddar, who stayed in a rented apartment at a residential society in Warje with his friends. He was from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh.

Sunil Darekar, senior inspector with Warje police station said,“We have found a suicide note which mentions that he took the extreme step on his own and no one should be held responsible for it. We have started an inquiry and have recorded statements of his close friends. We are trying to find out from where he procured the gun, which was not licenced.”

Police had said on Thursday night that Poddar, who was employed with the finance department of the IT company, had first tried to hang himself but failed.

“We have found some photographs from the room. We have also questioned his colleagues at the company. They told us that they did not notice anything different in him and that he didn’t show up for work on Thursday. We suspect him to have committed suicide owing to problems in personal life,” added Darekar.
