Journalists in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Monday staged a demonstration demanding that action be taken against Bhosari police inspector (crime) Chandrakant Bhosale who threatened to arrest journalists and confiscate their cameras. Supporting the demand, the Nagari Suraksha Samiti demanded the police inspector be suspended.

The journalists, led by Pimpri-Chinchwad Patrakar Sangh president Jayant Jadhav, held a protest at the Deputy

Commissioner of Police’s (Zone III) office in Chinchwad and submitted a memorandum to the Assistant Commissioner of Police Shivaji Shelar, who promised to inquire into the matter.

The journalists alleged Bhosale behaved rudely with them when they had gone to seek information on the rape case registered with the Bhosari police. “You have come here to get masaledaar (juicy) news ….I will put you under arrest and confiscate your cameras,” PI Bhosale allegedly told journalists.

Manav Kamble of Nagari Suraksha Samiti said,”This is an attack on the free press. Instead of supporting the press, police are behaving rudely with them. Bhosale should be transferred from the Bhosari police station.”

On Sunday, there was a confusion about the rape case. Initially,it was stated that a gangrape has taken place at PCMC’s Bhosari hospital. Later, police told journalists that a ward boy had raped the woman. A release issued by the police commissionerate identified hospital watchman Pramod Mandekar as the ward boy. When press brought it into the notice of police officials, they clarified that Pramod Mandekar was the watchman.
