Pending cases against Ganesh mandal activists withdrawn

The state government has decided to withdraw 155 cases filed against Ganesh mandal activists during the previous year’s Ganesh Chaturthi festivities. Congress legislator Mohan Joshi said the decision to withdraw the cases against mandal activists was taken on September 18.

The elected representatives from the city had raised the issue in the Legislative Assembly urging the state government to withdraw the cases,he said adding,“R R Patil had given directions to the police department to withdraw the cases.”

Most of the cases were filed in police stations in the central part of the city where celebrations were conducted in a grand manner,he said,adding the cases of violations of limiting sound of loudspeakers,creating nuisance and other minor incidents were registered. The police and legal department of the state government will work towards withdrawing the cases filed against them,Joshi said.

The Congress legislator also said they have urged the state government to allow Ganesh mandals to play sound and music till midnight for at least five days. “We are awaiting the response of the state government in this regard,” he added.
