The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) launched its Facebook page last week in a bid to keep residents updated with its functioning and actions.

Besides getting updates, residents in the industrial town of Pimpri-Chinchwad will also get an opportunity express their views and opinions about the services they avail from the civic body. Officials said PCMC is the first municipal corporation in Maharashtra to use social media to connect with its citizens.

The Facebook page was inaugurated by Mayor Mohini Lande at Madhukar Pavale auditorium. Municipal Commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi, leader of opposition Kailas Kadam and standing committee chairman Navnath Jagtap were present. PCMC’s facebook page address is http://www.facebook.com/pcmcindia.gov.in.

The civic chief said,“In this tech savvy world,it is necessary for the civic body to communicate with citizens through social media. With the help of a Facebook page, residents can express their demands and expectations from PCMC.

Residents can also post their views about the services provided to them by us. It will help us upgrade our services as we will know what the citizens expect directly.”

“PCMC recently launched its Sarathi helpline. In view of the large number of people who work in the IT field, there was a need to provide online services to citizens. Therefore,PCMC decided to use social media to connect with the citizens,” the mayor said.
