Panic alarm prevents theft at jewellery shop in Bibvewadi

A ‘PANIC alarm’ prevented a theft at a jewellery shop in Bibvewadi area in the early hours of Saturday.

According to police, unidentified persons tried to commit theft at the Shriyash Jewellery shop located in Mahesh Society in Bibvewadi around 5 am. However, as soon as they tried to break in by cutting the shutter of the shop, a ‘panic alarm’ installed inside went off.

The alarm created a loud noise due to which the burglars panicked and fled, leaving their weapons at the spot. Residents in the area heard the alarm, gathered around the shop and informed the police. A team of Bibvewadi police reached the spot and initiated investigation.

Meanwhile, the shop-owner, Shashikant Rajaram Khandre (41), resident of Shantai Bungalow, Green Acre society in Bibvewadi, was also informed about the incident. He lodged a complaint in this case at the Bibvewadi police station.

Police said Khandre had locked the shop around 9.30 pm on Friday, and that the burglars damaged the CCTV camera installed on the outer side of the shop. They also damaged the electricity board, but still alarm raised and prevented the theft. Police have checked CCTV videos for clues. Senior police officers including deputy commissioner of police Pankaj Dahane visited the spot for investigation.
