Six youths from Velha in Pune district, who were on their way to attend a wedding in Solapur, were killed and two others were critically injured after the car they were traveling in collided head-on with a container on Ahmednagar-Solapur road on Thursday.

As per the information given by the Ahmednagar police, the eight youths, who were in their early 20s, from Vinzar village were on their way to Mirajgaon village in Solapur district in their Tavera. Assistant inspector B D Salunke of Shrigonda police station said, “Primary probe has revealed that the Tavera driver tried to overtake another heavy vehicle and collided with the container approaching it. The accident took place at Banpimpri village around 12.30 pm. Six people died on the spot. The condition of two others, who are being treated in a hospital, is critical.”

The deceased have been identified as Sagar Sahdev Daswadkar (25), Ajinkya Arun Pawar (22), Mangesh Madhukar Limhan (25), Swapnil Ashok Limhan (21), Sonya Dnyaneshwar Pawar (23) and Nitin Pawar (25). Atul Ramesh Limhan (22) and Anil Pawar (25) sustained multiple injuries. ASI Salunke said, “Some of these youths were studying, while others were preparing for police recruitment. We have registered an offence of accident in the case and are recording statements of witnesses.”
