During his cross-examination on Friday,an officer from a telecommunication firm told a special court that on the day of the German Bakery Blast,February 13,2010,the location of the SIM card seized from accused Himayat Baig (32) was Aurangabad, about 260 km from Pune.
B John, the nodal officer of a telecommunication company, was deposing before the court of additional sessions Judge N P Dhote.
John said,On September 6,2010 (a day before Baig was arrested from Pune),the mobile tower location of his SIM card was Pune. He was cross-examined by defence lawyers A Rehman and Kainat Ali Shaikh.
Special public prosecutor Raja Thakre said,The location of the SIM card does not imply Baig was in
Aurangabad. It is an electronic device and not part of the human body.
Shaikh said,It has been observed that the prosecutors interpret the SIM locations only the way it suits their case and so they select technical evidences that way. They have always been using SIM location to prove presence of a person. Now that Baigs SIM was located in Aurangabad on the day of the blast, they are saying that only his phone was there and not Baig in person.
After Baig was arrested, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) had seized a mobile phone,a SIM card, voter ID card and some papers.
