The Pune Parivahan Mahanagar Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has revealed that of the 357 bus routes across the city,only 35 are profitable for the transport utility.
In a written statement to the civic bodys general body,Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Pathak said if the expenditure of PMPML,which is Rs 56.36 per km,is taken into account then only 35 routes are making profit. He said the Pune Darshan bus for tourists and daily route bus from Pune station to swargate are registering highest profits.
The highest losses have been reported on Pune station to Pimple Saudagar and Nigdi to Shirgaon routes,with the revenue collected being less than 40 per cent. As many as 13 routes have less that 50 per cent revenue collection,43 less than 60 per cent,75 less than 70 per cent ,83 less than 80 per cent,70 less than 90 per cent and 36 less than 100 per cent.
The PMPML has recently started rationalising ticket fares in the multiples of Rs 5.
