Deputy mayor Ulhas alias Aba Bagul’s sons Amit and Kapil are among five persons booked for rape on a complaint at the Dattawadi police station by a 38-year-old married woman who is a nurse.

All five have been booked under sections 376 (rape), 354 (molestation), 294 (obscene acts), 506 (criminal intimidation), 379, 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The deputy mayor, however, told reporters the complaint was false.

Amit Bagul, a Congress corporator in the Pune Municipal Corporation, has been arranging religious tours to Kashi every year. Police said the complainant was a member of the medical team that had gone on one such tour in 2011. As per the complaint filed by the woman, Amit Bagul allegedly raped her when she was alone during the tour. When she tried to file a complaint, Amit’s brother Kapil and other aides threatened her and also lodged non-cognisable (NC) offences against her.

Assistant police inspector Jyoti Gadkari is investigating the case. No arrests have been made in the case as yet. ENS
