After encouraging citizens to pay property tax by May 31 and avail themselves of the rebate, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has now decided to keep open its collection centres on holidays to allow more citizens to pay the tax on their preferred day.

The move to give a 10 per cent rebate in the general tax to property owners paying tax by May 31 received a good response last year. “The civic body managed to increase its revenue collection by May 31 last year after the rebate was announced. We have taken another step to encourage more citizens to pay their tax on time by opening collection centres on holidays, except for May 1. The centres would remain open from 10.30 am to 2 pm,” said Vilas Kanade, additional municipal commissioner and property tax collection officer.

He said the civic body has appointed external agency for faster distribution of property tax bills. Those who have not received the property tax bills yet can bring their previous year bill for reference and do the payment for 2012-13,he said adding the bills are also available online. Those failing to pay the taxes on time are charged two per cent penalty every month from July 1 onwards.
