The anti-orgainsed crime cell (north region) of the Pune police crime branch has seized as many as seven pistols and 14 live cartridges worth Rs 2.11 lakh from three persons,including notorious criminal Sopan Chorghe (27).
Acting on a tip-off to Police Naik Tanaji Kamble,a team led by inspector Balkrishna Kutwal laid a trap and nabbed Chorghe on the Pashan-Susgaon Road around 5 pm on November 25.
Police seized two pistols and four cartridges from his possession. He was booked under relevant sections of the Arms Act and an offence was registered at Chatushringi police station.
Assistant Police Inspector Ranjit Bhoite was investigating the case. During investigation,police arrested two alleged illegal firearms dealers,who were identified as Ankush Rajendra Pandure and Avinash Arun Khandagle,both residents of Nevasa in Ahmednagar district.
The duo reportedly supplied pistols two Chorghe. Police recovered five pistols and 10 live cartridges from them. Police said the duo procured the firearms from Rahul Barnala alias Shikkalkari of Madhya Pradesh and a search has been launched to nab him.
Police said Chorghe is a resident of Velhe taluka in Pune district. He was earlier arrested in the sensational Sandip Bandal murder case in February 2008. He was also involved in criminal activities in Ahmednagar,they said.
