The DY Patil Group in collaboration with the Maharashtra Editors’ Council announced the initiative of Lifetime Achievement Award,funded by the DY Patil Group,on Monday. The award — with a Rs 1 lakh cash prize,a citation,shawl and shreefal — will be conferred on people who have made notable contribution in fields such as literature,journalism,arts,sports and social work. Ajeenkya DY Patil,chairman of Ajeenkya DY Patil Group and Honorary Consul General,Republic of Guyana along with Yashwant Padhye,working chairman,Maharashtra Editors’ Council,conferred the first edition of the award on noted poet Mangesh Padgaonkar. The award ceremony will be held on September 5 at DY Patil Knowledge City Auditorium,Pune. Padagaonkar is also the winner of Sahitya Academy Award and Padmabhushan Award.

All about IT

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) announced that Pune’s edition of TCS IT Wiz 2013 will be held on Tuesday,August 27,at Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruha,Karve Road,Kothrud. The event is open to all school students in standards VIII-XII. There will be no entry fee. Each institution is allowed to send multiple teams of two-members each to participate. Through the event this year,there will be a hunt for smart Tech Wizard across 14 cities including Ahmedabad,Bangalore,Bhubaneswar,Chennai,Coimbatore,Delhi,Hyderabad,Indore,Kochi,Kolkata,Lucknow,Mumbai,Nagpur and Pune. Winners of the Tech Wizard from each of these cities will contest for the “Smart Tech Wizard 2013” title,in the mega finals to be held in December. Winners of the UAE edition will also compete in this mega final. Entries for the event must be submitted through the institutions on or before August 23 to TCS IT Wiz Coordinator,Tata Consultancy Services,Tata Research Development & Design Centre,Hadapsar. Teams can also opt to register online on the website http://www.tcsitwiz.com. The quiz will focus on applications of information technology across various sectors such as world of internet and unique web sites,IT buzzwords and acronyms,IT personalia-international,national and local,advertisements of IT and communication companies,software products and brands,history of IT as well as the humorous side of IT. The quiz will also cover areas where IT has made an impact — education,entertainment,books,multimedia,music,movies,internet,banking,advertising,sports,gaming,social networking,blogging

and cell phones.

A tab on Virtual Monitors

The Department Information Technology of Maharashtra Institute of Technology,Pune (MIT) organised a seminar on ‘Cloud Computing’ under MITCERI on Saturday at the S203 South Block in their campus. The objective of this seminar was to spread awareness about hypervisor (a virtual machine monitor) by different vendors. Speakers also spoke to the final year students of IT,Computer Engineering,about the use of Virtualization

Technology and its advantages.

Ruling Malhar Again

Fergusson College,which won Malhar Local 2012,stole the outstation trophy again at Malhar-Zara Hatke that was held between August 15-17. The college bagged prizes for classical dance,acapella singing,duet and creative writing competitions. The contingent of almost 60 students were led by Mayur Garud,and assistant contingent leaders Ketaki Thosar and Akshay Dhamale.

A Noble Cause

On Independence Day,students of International Institute of Hotel Management visited different charies in Pune like the Isha Premaniketan at Nana Peth,Mother Teresa’s Missionary of Charity at Tadiwala Road and Sandhya Old-Age Home. The students cooked food for the people at these places.
