The NDA English School celebrated its 57th Annual Day with great enthusiasm and gaiety at Habibullah Hall in the NDA campus recently. Lt Gen Jatinder Singh AVSM,SM,Commandant NDA was the chief guest while Harjit Kaur,the first lady of NDA,was also present on the occasion. The function was marked by a vibrant and colourful cultural programme by the students of the school followed by a prize distribution ceremony wherein achievers in the academic,sports and extra curricular segments received awards at the hands of Kaur. Speaking on the occasion,Singh appreciated the schools academic progress and the students’ showcasing of their talents. He also exhorted the staff to adopt modern techniques of teaching in tune with future requirements.
100 years of service
Sardar Dastur Hoshang Boys High School,Camp,celebrated the completion of 100 years of the school with a programme on January 8. The programme,titled Unity in Diversity,was attended by ex-students including Rajiv Yeravdekar,the dean of faculty of health sciences at the Symbiosis International University. The day witnessed a panorama,titled Vande Mataram,which showcased the journey of freedom fighters in the Indian struggle from the Great Uprising of 1857 to India’s independence in 1947. The celebrations began in January 8 last year with the launch of the official website of the school followed by online admissions. Prayers and ceremonies were organised round the year to mark the celebrations. There was also an inter-school football match with participation by 16 schools. A Food Festival was organised on November 27 and 28,2011,followed by two marathon sessions.
Sadhu Vaswani Mission’s St Mira’s Primary and Pre-Primary schools celebrated Annual Sports Day on January 30 at Arun Kumar Vaidya Stadium,Bhavani Peth. The theme of the Sport’s Day was ‘festivals’. The students showed great enthusiasm by participating in races and drills. Some students performed yoga,aerobics and thrilling karate drills. Noted mountaineer Krushna Patil was the chief guest and she felicitated the winners. Patil urged parents to encourage their children to participate in sports.
The AMOR Rudolf Steiner School Pune held a seminar on the Waldorf Educational System where the merits of this educational system were discussed. The seminar,held at the Parkhe Hall on Fergusson College Road on January 22,was open to to parents and teachers. Seshadri Desikan and Padmini Seshadri who are faculty members at CSETT (Center for Steiner Education and Teacher Training) Mumbai spoke about the system. Rupa Chordiya,board member of the AMOR Rudolf Steiner School Pune,says,The system is based on the understanding of human development and helps to promote social and emotional intelligence in children. Currently the AMOR Rudolf Steiner School Pune is the only school in the city that follows this system.
The Cathedral Vidya School,Lonavala,hosted its annual sports day meet earlier this month. Present on the occasion was Ravi M Dixit,head of yoga institute Kaivalyadham. The highlight of this years sports meet was the equestrian show where students displayed their acumen in horse riding. Dance displays,march past and the patriotic drill based on national integration by the four houses of the school were few of the activities organised during the day. Such events help in developing an attitude of healthy competition through team-spirit,integration and spirit of self-sacrifice, said Meera Sain,principal.
The Patriotic Side
Andhra High School,Apte Road,celebrated Republic Day with great pomp and show at the school premises. The programme began with the National Anthem and the hoisting of the Tri-colour. Students sang patriotic songs and delivered speeches. A prize distribution ceremony was also held wherein students were awarded trophies for securing the first position in the quiz and other competitions. Present on the occasion were V Rama Rao,president of the school committee,M K Reddy,chairman of the Andhra Association,and chief guest,K Veenadhari.
