Maharashtra police will assist in Hyderabad blasts probe, says Patil
Home minister R R Patil on Friday said the Maharashtra police would assist in Hyderabad blasts investigations. He said there is no specific alert for Maharashtra, but security has been beefed up across the state as a precautionary measure.
Investigations by the special cell of Delhi police had revealed that two suspects arrested in the Pune J M Road blasts case had conducted a recce of Dilsukhnagar in Hyderabad. Similarities like use of bicycles for planting the bombs have led to the belief that the two cases could have a common thread.
Speaking to mediapersons at the Pune police commissionerate,Patil said a team of Maharashtra police officers had left for Hyderabad. “Maharashtra has seen many terror attacks. So our police have more experience and expertise in handling terror cases. Most of the time, our cops get information before others about terror movements and the modus operandi of suspects. Our team will be in Hyderabad. We would be sharing information and providing all possible assistance to Hyderabad police in the investigation.”
He attended a crime review meeting of the Pune city police. Police Commissioner Gulabrao Pol and other senior officers were present. Patil reviewed security. There was a discussion on gadgets and equipment like bomb suits needed by Pune police for tackling terror attacks.
Patil said,”We are taking preventive measures across the state as Maharashtra, particularly cities like Mumbai and Pune, targeted many times by terror operatives.”
Patil expressed the need for increasing manpower in the Pune police force. He discussed with cops steps that should be taken for increasing detection and conviction rates.
ATS team in Hyderabad for clues to find any link with JM Road blasts
Looking into several similarities between the Hyderabad twin blasts and the J M Road blasts the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad has started a probe to find any link. Biycles were used in both cases and two suspects in the Pune case had, according to Delhi police, conducted a recce of Dilsukhnagar in Hyderabad about 15 days before the Pune blasts of August 1.
It may be recalled that four IEDs planted on bicycles had exploded on JM Road, and two others were defused by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad. In October, the Delhi police had arrested five persons in connection with the Pune blasts. After the arrest,Delhi police had said two of the arrested suspects,Syed Maqbool and Imran Khan, had conducted a recce of three places including Dilsukhnagar.
Delhi police had said Maqbool helped Imran in conducting a recce of Dilsukhnagar,Begum Bazar and Abids in Hyderabad on a motorcycle under directions from Riyaz Bhatkal.
Amitesh Kumar,Additional Commissioner of Police (ATS) said,We are probing similarities between the two cases. Our team is already in Hyderabad. Another senior police officer said the team will share information with the agencies probing the Hyderabad blasts.
Pune blasts suspects posters draw a blank
