Action was initiated against 150 constructions in the Khed Shivapur and Velu villages which were obstructing the widening of the national highway 4 (NH4) by the district administration.
The land was acquired in 2003 for the widening purpose. However, over the years there were several encroachments which emerged and finally after several meetings with the villagers, the district administration decided to initiate action against the constructions. The surveyor was called and according to the map, the land area was marked before the illegal constructions were razed.
Officials with heavy police protection removed these encroachments after giving a notice a day before. According to the officials, many had pulled down these constructions on their own and the remaining were pulled down Thursday. Apart from a few skirmishes between the locals and the administration, the work was carried out smoothly, said officials.
The officials said that the encroachments had emerged after the land was acquired and there were several notices sent out to them and the final notice was sent last month. The team from the Haveli office carried out the operations for the demolition drive.
