Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi said the proposal for the inclusion of 20 areas in PCMC limits has come from the state government.
The proposal was put forward just as the state was about to take the decision regarding granting municipal council status to Chakan gram panchayat. The state sought the view of PCMC and the district collectorate as to whether Chakan should have separate council status or be included within civic limits, he said.
If Chakan is included, then villages from Moshi up to Chakan will also have to be included. That is how the proposal came forward, Pardeshi said.
Pardeshi said party leaders have given their nod and now the proposal will be placed before the City Improvements Committee and civic general body.
This is not the first time the move has been made to bring villages in PCMC limits. In 1997,17 villages, including Dapodi,Pimple Saudagar and Wakad were included. While those villages are not far from PCMC headquarters, political leaders and residents from other villages say their areas have remained under-developed.
PCMC has not been able to develop the villages which were included 16 years back except Hinjewadi. How will it develop 20 new areas? asked BJP leader Eknath Pawar. After octroi was scrapped,PCMC is finding it hard to get revenue. In such a scenario, inclusion of these 20 villages will add to PCMCs burden, said NCP MLA Dilip Mohite-Patil.
