National Film Archives to hold film festival

Films being screened include landmark films of the trio - Dilip Kumar (Devdas), Dev Anand (Munimji) and Raj Kapoor (Shri 420).

The National Film Archive of India is organising a films festival, ‘Fantastic1955’, next week. It is a festival for films which were released in 1955 and have completed 60 years of their release this year. Films being screened include landmark films of the trio – Dilip Kumar (Devdas), Dev Anand (Munimji) and Raj Kapoor (Shri 420).

The inaugural film is Raj Kapoor’s Shri 420, as it was released on 6th September 1955.

The package also includes a biopic on the life of the legendary singing star K L Saigal, directed by Nitin Bose. A Malayalam classic Newspaper Boy, produced by students is also in the list.

The film that brought India on to the map of world cinema, Pather Panchali, Satyajit Ray, an all-time classic, will also be screened at the festival.

Two films, Newspaper Boy and Pather Panchali are English subtitled. To be held from September 22 to 26, the festival is open to all on a first come first basis.

The films will be screened in the Main Auditorium of National Film Archives of India (NFAI) on Prabhat Road.
