Nano from the Tata Motors stable will be a small car,but the company is thinking big when it comes to leveraging IT for the success of the car. Through blogs,social networking sites to online and mobile games,the company hopes to reach out to the maximum number of people.
On March 23,the day of the launch,the Tata Nano website went live with the information on bookings and price from 8 pm and till 5 pm the next day,the site got 5.4 million hits.
The online booking facility for Nano is one of the innovative ideas and the site has links to Nano community in social networking sites like Orkut and Facebook. “In addition to the existing ones,there is a free online game on the Nano portal and a mobile game on Tata zone for users of Tata Indicom mobile phones,” said a Tata Motors spokesperson.
He said the idea is to reach out to maximum number of potential buyers and the blog administered by the company on its Nano portal has helped immensely in getting feedback and suggestions from people.
“The Tata Nano website has received 5.4 million hits since the Nano was launched and we do hope that through the portal we will reach many more people who are interested in booking the vehicle,” the official said.
“I am Nihar from Uttroli,a small village in Orrisa. I like to buy my dream car Nano online. Kindly inform me when its available,” goes one of the comment on the Nano blog. While another one from an NRI reads: “I am from the US and looking forward to buying this reasonably cute car. To buy online will be great,because I have a feeling that when the rest of the Americans see this car at such a reasonable price,everyone will want one.”
Apart from the official blogs and portal,Nano is also the buzzword in the virtual world in general and it is the hot topic of discussion among bloggers and social networking enthusiasts. Recently,a website had conducted a blogging competition,with prize worth Rs 1,000 for the best blog and review on Nano.
“Nano has turned the global attention to the country and definitely the portal,blog and links to social networking sites is a welcome move. I have written 400 words about Nano in my personal blog in blogspot,” said G S Rahul,an Internet junkie working with a Pune-based MNC.
