An eight-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted and later strangled to death by a 35-year-old construction labourer in Kadachi Wadi village near Chakan on Wednesday night. His body was found on the premises of a building near Chakan early on Thursday.
The Chakan police said the boy,son of another construction labourer in Kadachi Wadi, had been missing since Wednesday afternoon. Inspector Sushil Kadam,in charge of Chakan that comes under the jurisdiction of Pune Rural police, said: He was last seen with the suspect and three other children sometime in the afternoon. The man reportedly used to take them to play to a nearby place everyday. When the remaining three children came back at night but the boy did not,his parents started a search in the surrounding areas.
The man was later identified as Khanaksingh Janaksingh Panchal,a resident of Hamidpur in Uttar Pradesh.
Kadam said the boys body was found at a secluded spot on the premises of an educational institute. The post-mortem report has cited strangulation as the cause of death. The boy also has multiple wounds on his private parts. It is clear that he has been sexually assaulted, he added.
Panchal was arrested on Thursday morning.
As of now,we do not have any information about any other child being assaulted by him. But we are probing in that direction too, said Kadam. The boy used to go to a nearby school.
