A statement issued by Misal said that there has been an increase in the number of H1N1 (swine flu) and dengue cases with 46 swine flu related deaths since January. It added that there is a requirement for an infectious diseases ward with 200 beds at a government hospital.
Misal,in a letter to state health minister Suresh Shetty, said that several announcements regarding setting up a 200 bed-ward had been made four years ago when the pandemic flu had hit Pune.
There is a requirement for ventilators, separate wards, sonography machines and round the clock physicians to treat patients, she said.
A total of Rs 3.80 crore was allocated for the project. But the funds were used for upgrading infrastructure at the second floor of Aundh district hospital and a mere six beds were set up to treat swine flu patients, Misal said.
