Marriage registration officer caught accepting Rs 300 bribe

The state Anti-Corruption Bureau,Pune,on Monday arrested a marriage registration officer for allegedly demanding bribe for issuing an acknowledgement receipt.

The state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB),Pune,on Monday arrested a marriage registration officer for allegedly demanding bribe for issuing an acknowledgement receipt.

ACB officials said that Ramchandra Maruti Parekar (57),a resident of Navi Peth,was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 300 from one Dipti Chandrakant Nirmale (24).

They said Nirmale is a software engineer and resides at Panchasheel Housing Society in Kothrud. She is about to get married in August. She had gone to the marriage registration office at the district collectorate on July 12 to submit the required form and documents,they said.

Parekar allegedly demanded Rs 700 from Niramle for issuing an acknowledgement receipt for the form. He called her with the money on Monday.

Meanwhile,Nirmale lodged complaint at the ACB,Pune. The ACB team comprising deputy superintendents Hemant Bhat,B M Kale,inspectors Bharat Bhosale,Sangita Patil,and others laid a trap at the marriage registration office while Nirmale was bargaining with Parekar.

Following this he agreed to do her work for Rs 300 but was caught red-handed by the ACB sleuths while accepting the amount. It also came into light that Parekar had charged Rs 4,000 from Nirmale’s sister who registered her marriage on July 1,2012.
