A man posing as a doctor allegedly robbed 64-year-old woman of her gold ornaments worth Rs 1.1 lakh when she had gone to a hospital in Erandwane for some tests on Wednesday. This is the sixth such incident in four months.

Kothrud police said Vijaya Panhale,a resident of Sihngad Road, had come to the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital for some tests. Assistant inspector S D Deshmukh of Kothrud police said,“A man came to Panhale and identified himself as a doctor. He asked her to remove all her ornaments and keep them on a table in a small room. Later,Panhale went to the technician and said she was ready for the test and removed all her ornaments,as told to her by the doctor.”

The technician, however, told her how could someone other than them ask her to remove jewellery. “Panhale then realised that she was robbed of the ornaments,” said Deshmukh.

“We have checked the CCTV footage but the complainant has not spotted the suspect. We will now be making a sketch of the suspect,” he added.

Police have registered a case against the person under section of 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating).
