A major fire broke out at a forging company in Talegaon late on Saturday,leading to two oil tanks exploding. As the fire spread,a 22-year-old labour contractor was killed when he was hit by a vehicle coming out of the factory premises.

Engineering Autocomp Ltd building around 8 pm. Police said fire tenders from Pimpri-Chinchwad reached the spot immediately and doused the flames. P V Jadhav,fire officer at
Hinjewadi fire station said,We got a call from the PCMC control room. We started our operation around 9 pm. Prima facie,it appeared that the fire started due to a short circuit in the conveyor belt assembly. The fire spread fast and reached the spot where two tanks containing 6,000 litres of oil each were kept. Cylinders of inflammable acetylene were also kept there.
The police and fire brigade teams found the deceased,Satishkumar Satyanarayan Mahato of Samastipur,Bihar,on the road. He had suffered grievous injuries,the police said.
Jadhav said,Over 10 fire tenders took nearly eight hours to douse the flames. The fire spread so fast that we could not prevent it from reaching the two oil tanks. The acetylene cylinders,too,got destroyed in the blast. By around 5.45 am,the fire was brought under control.
Thick fumes coming out of the factory could be seen from a distance,police said.
Shankar Jadhav,deputy superintendent of police (home),Pune rural police,said,The spot where Mahatos body was found was about 500 m away from the fire. His injuries indicate that he had been hit by one of the many vehicles that were evacuated from the factorys shed. Superintendent of police (Pune rural) Shahaji Solunke and divisional fire officer Nilesh Verleker visited the spot.
Police estimate the damages to be a few crores.
