The Pune unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a woman police sub-inspector and a constable for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000, to submit a report in favour of a rape accused in court. The ACB has identified the accused as sub-inspector Swati Dattatraya More (34) and constable Harshal Rajendra Shivarkar (32), both attached to the Kondhwa police station.

The complaint was filed by the son of the accused, who was arrested by the Kondhwa police in connection with a rape case under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The accused is currently lodged in jail.

To ensure that the accused is granted bail, PSI More and constable Shivarkar allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000, in exchange of submitting a report in court in his favour. The complainant then approached the ACB, which laid a trap and nabbed Shivarkar while he was allegedly accepting Rs 15,000 in the presence of PSI More.

An offence of corruption was lodged against the two policemen at the Kondhwa police station, stated a press released by Jagdish Satav, deputy superintendent, ACB, Pune.
