Kondhwa: 3 of a family killed, driver injured as autorickshaw rams into house

The autorickshaw driver also suffered severe injuries and has been admitted to a hospital. Assistant police inspector PR Shikalgar is investigating the case.

An autorickshaw collided with the walls of a private house at Vetal Chowk in Kondhwa Khurd, killing three of a family, all senior citizens returning from an engagement ceremony on Sunday night. The police have identified the deceased as Sharif Ibrahim Khan (64), his wife Fahmida Khan (61) and sister Zahira Zahir Qureshi (64), all residents of Talim Chowk in Ghorpadigaon.

An offence was registered in the case at the Kondhwa police station. Police have booked autorickshaw driver Saddam, alias Momin Babulal Shaikh (22), a resident of Bhagyoday Nagar in Kondhwa, under Sections 279, 337, 304(a) and Sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.

According to the police, the three were returning from an engagement ceremony at Lane No. 3 of Kondhwa. Their autorickshaw allegedly lost balance and due to negligent driving on a slope near the bungalow of former Shiv Sena MLA Mahadev Babar it collided with the walls of a house owned by one Atul Chougule around 10 pm.

The impact was so severe that the Shaikh family was crushed inside the autorickshaw. Sharif Shaikh and his wife Fahimda died on the spot, while Zahira died during treatment at Sassoon Hospital, added the police.
