State transport bus driver Santosh Mane, whose maniacal driving killed eight persons and injured 32,would be kept under observation in the Yerawada Mental Hospital till February 6.
A current medical status report given to the court by Dr Vilas Bhailume, medical superintendent, regional mental hospital,Yerawada stated,Report of Psychometric assessment (of Mane) is awaited. As per the serial psychiatric assessments and observation charts,in our opinion,Mane should be continued to be under observation at the hospital.
The report giving details of the medical tests that were administered on Mane was given in a sealed envelope to judicial magistrate first class Umeshchandra More.
The court,in its order, granted observation time to Bhailume with request to submit report on whether he is mentally ill as per the Mental Health Act 1987 or not on February 6. The court has also upheld the right of police to seek Manes custody after the submission of the report.
Bhailume said four psychiatrists, nurses and one clinical psychologist have been making their observations on Mane.
It is likely that the Rorschach Personality Test,or the Inkblot test,a projective test used by psychologists to determine the inner and hidden feelings and thoughts of the individual is being used among others in the psychometric assessment of Mane.
Interviews are conducted daily,Bhailume said. According to the psychiatrists, interpreting the results of the psychometric tests will help establish whether the patient has a personality disorder or not.
