The body of a 40-year-old labourer feared drowned in Katraj lake when he was boating on Thursday afternoon, could not be traced even after day-long efforts by the fire brigade and a team from the National Disaster Response Force.

Rajesh Vitthal Dhotre,a resident of Wadarwadi, had fallen into Katraj lake when he was boating along with his two kids. Police said Dhotre lost his balance when they were splashing water on each other and none of the persons on the boat were wearing life jackets.

Nagnath Wakude, senior inspector with Bharati Vidyapeeth police station, said,“In spite of all efforts, his body could not be traced. Teams from Pune fire brigade and NDRF were pushed into action.”

Fire station officer Sanjay Ramteke said,“We started the search in the morning and continued until 2 pm. The silt at the bottom of the lake was making the search difficult.”

“Our team of four divers carried out the search with a rescue boat. We suspect the body is trapped in the silt at the bottom. We will continue the search with two more boats and more personnel.” said a NDRF official.

“No case has yet been registered in the matter. We are recording statements of the kids and other witnesses,” added Wakude.
