As part of Swakamai,an initiative started by the Interact Club of Vidyanchal for students of Stds VI,VII and VIII,students undertake odd jobs of washing cars, running errands for friends and neighbours and getting paid in return. This year, the children created wonderful diyas, lanterns and greeting cards and sold them at a ‘Diwali Dhamaka Sale’ at the school. The amount collected was then used to buy a 1000 litre Sintex tank for ‘Navkshitij’,a home for mentally challenged adults at Marunji. Recently, the children visited the home and gifted the tank. They also presented a song and dance for the inmates of the home. In return, the Navkshitij group put up a street play for the children about terrorism and non-violence. They also showed them around their campus. With this interaction, the students realised the immense potential and skilsl of these differently-abled people. It was an emotionally touching experience for them. The event was supported by the Rotary Club of Pune,Ganeshkhind, which always encourages the social activities undertaken by the students of Vidyanchal Interact Club.
