JLR success proof of growing Indo-British trade ties: UK minister

Stephen Green on Friday cited the success of Tata Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) as a proof of growing trade links between India and United Kingdom.

British Minister of State for Trade and Investment Lord Stephen Green on Friday cited the success of Tata Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) as a proof of growing trade links between India and United Kingdom.

Addressing a seminar in the city on Friday,Green said business between both the countries is pegged at £16.9 billion and is expected to grow to £ 24 billion by 2015.

“Though JLR was a well trusted British brand,it became a tired brand of late. The take over by Tatas gave the brand a required push and is now doing phenomenally well,” he said.

Green added many British Indian companies are doing exceptionally well,thanks to exchange of innovations and ideas between the companies.

Sanjay Kirloksar,Managing Director,Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL),said to inculcate innovation,the company had taken many steps to develop a spirit of research and development among employees.

“We take apprentices from colleges to help us develop newer ideas,” he said. He said pumps developed by the company can be found at places like Sydney Opera House and new World Trade Centre among other places.
